Hello and welcome to Reception

Starting school is the first step on the exciting Westbury Park adventure.

Reception is when we settle into school life, discover new friends and begin our learning journey.

In Reception, children join one of two classes, either Red Room or Green Room. This will be their base room for registration and teaching inputs, however throughout the day we operate as a year group unit. This means children have free flow learning opportunities both indoors and out.

Please take a look around our web pages to find out more about life in Reception.

Enjoy chatting to your child about their day at school! Find out if they made a new friend or tried a new experience. Reading bedtime stories out loud to your child is a great way to foster a love of learning for stories and books. We encourage children to spend a little time every day reading a book from their reading folder and a weekly 'funfile' task reinforces activities carried out during the week. The emphasis is on fun, this should be an enjoyable time for both children and parents! Some children are exhausted after a busy day at school and find homework too much of a challenge, if this is the case please don't worry, enjoy a cosy story time together instead!

We don't follow specific topics in Reception as the topics we study are led by the children's interests. This ensures that the children are active participants in their own learning. Observations of children in their play inform our planning and enable us to identify next steps in their learning.
