How to help your Year Four child

There are many ways that you can support your child this year with their learning:
  • Regularly practising spellings, making sure children know the meaning of all the words and how to use them in a sentence. Dictating sentences using the week’s spellings and incorporating others from previous lists can be a useful way of remembering certain letter patterns or particularly tricky words.
  • Read together as often as possible, remembering to hear your child read out loud. This not only has an impact on their writing but also develops their confidence when speaking in front of an audience.
  • Regularly practising times tables as they will find all aspects of maths much more accessible once they are confident with them.
  • Involve children in every day maths (such as shopping, cooking, measuring) whenever possible.
  • Talk with your child about what they have done in the school day. Is there anything they need a bit of extra help with?
