Homework

Reading: Please continue to encourage your child to read aloud to you at home as often as possible and write the names of the books they read in their Reading Record.

We recommend a mixture of independent reading, reading with and reading to your child for 15 minutes per day.

Please encourage your child to explain why (using because) they liked/didn’t like the book.

Spellings (5/10 minutes per day): Spelling lists will be handed out most Fridays and words tested the following Friday. If children do not pick up a list on Friday for whatever reason, spellings can be found on the Year 3 Spellings page.

Times Tables (5/10 minutes per day): Please encourage your child to learn their times tables. Weekly times tables challenges take place on a Friday morning. These are designed to help the children develop confidence using the multiplication and division.
All children will begin by working towards gaining their bronze certificate. In order to achieve this they need to be able to recall the x2, x5 and x10 multiplication and associated division facts at speed.

By the end of the year, children in year 3 are expected to use and apply their x3, x4 and x8 tables to gain their silver certificates.
Please view 'Times Tables and Solutions' page.

Later in the year: We may also send home pieces of homework to support their learning.
This could be another English or mathematics based task or related to our topic.

We like to be flexible in our planning to meet the needs of our children. Whilst we have given an overview for the planned topics for the year, these may change from time to time.
